Wakefield

The Cathedral City of Wakefield, located in West Yorkshire, prospered for many years as a grain and cloth port, and today as then, Wakefield is a thriving economic center.

You should visit the Sandal Castle dating from the 12th Century. The stone castle overlooked the site of the Battle of Wakefield fought in 1460. After the siege during the Civil War in 1645, the castle was demolished on the orders of Parliament. During the 1960's and 70's the castle was restored to the condition in which we find it today.
