Southampton

Southampton, located in Hampshire County, is famous for its port that has played a vital role in Britain's import and export and is rich in history. The Titanic sailed out of here before meeting its sad fate in Atlantic. Today Southampton often sees the QE2 in her docks and proudly plays host to the annual Southampton Boat Show every September. The city suffered mass destruction during the Second World War and was rebuild in 1950' but it still has a surprising number of historic attractions such as the medieval city wall, including the impressive northern gate known as the Bargate, built in 1180. You should also visit the Holy Rood Church, the Mayflower Memorial and the fascinating medieval merchant's house, built in 1290. Isle of Wight and the New Forest are nearby.
