Peterborough

The attractive and thriving market town of Peterborough, located in Cambridgeshire, is a centre for manufacturing and commerce on the banks of the river Nene, but its roots go back nearly 6 centuries. It is known for its cathedral that dates back to Norman times, towering majestically above the city centre. The Cathedral's West Front is breathtaking and the building as a whole is one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Europe. The city has a wealth of attractions ranging from a modern and extensive shopping centre, some 200 yards from the Cathedral, to an Iron Age settlement, known as Flag Fen, to the east. The city is surrounded by contrasting countryside - limestone and clay hills to the west, and the flat, productive fens to the east.
