Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough is a large industrial town situated at the mouth of the River Tees, at the southern edge of north-east England, in Yorkshire County.

The unusual attraction of the town is the Bottle of Notes, a modern sculpture by the celebrated artist Claes Oldenburg, commemorating Captain James Cook, the eighteenth-century maritime explorer, who was born here. The outer (white) shell consists of extracts from Captain Cook's journals.

The other tourist attraction is the Transporter Bridge over the Tees. It is the town's best known and well-loved landmark, opened in 1911 and one of only two left in Britain.
