Durham
Durham, the county town, is dominated by the magnificent Cathedral of St Cuthbert and the castle founded soon after the Norman Conquest.
The cathedral building is widely regarded as one of the most complete and perfect examples of Romanesque architecture still in existence.
The castle, a dramatic example of a typical Norman fortification, contains now a part of the University of Durham.
Durham is located:
24 km away from Newcastle upon Tyne
