Dover

Dover is the ancient town and gateway to England, located in Kent County, at the narrowest point between Continental Europe and the British Isles. Historically it has been a fortified garrison and now it is a busy port where many ferries, catamarans or hydrofoils cross the English Channel to North-West France. The most famous feature of the town is the White Cliffs.
The chalk cliffs have been formed in Mesozoic Era and are essentially marine in origin. Numerous fossils have been discovered in the chalk, ranging from shark's teeth, sponges, ammonites, and brain corals.
High on the White Cliffs above the town and Eastern Docks there is Dover Castle, with it's ancient keep and dungeons. It is famous for the fact that Churchill masterminded World War II strategy there.
