Dartmouth

Dartmouth is set in a beautiful location, on the picturesque River Dart, with steep wooded hillsides on either side. The Normans used Darmouth as a trading port with their homeland across the English Channel - and the Crusaders, led by Richard the Lionheart, set sail from Dartmouth. Attractions of the area include Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle that have maintained a guard at the mouth of the River Dart for centuries. The brilliantly positioned defensive Dartmouth Castle, which stands guard over the narrow entrance of the Dart Estuary, offers a historic exhibition, great views, beautiful picnic spots, shops, and refreshments.
