Boroughbridge, the picturesque village in North Yorkshire,
officially dates from the time of William the Conqueror.
Although it is thought to have been occupied as far back as the bronze age.
Then the legendary millstone grit pillars known as "The Devil's Arrows" were placed
in a row on the western edge of the present town.
The last of them is taller than those at Stonehenge!
The bridge, spanning the river Ure once formed an essential link
between London and Edinburgh.
